"(It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction (Nafsul Mutmainnah) ! Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, and enter you My Paradise!" - Surah Al Fajr [89:27-30]

Wiping the hands over the face

From Irwaa' al-Ghaleel (2/178-182) by Shaykh al-Albaani

1) "The Prophet (sallallaahu `alaihi wa sallam), when he raised his hands in du`aa', he would not put them down until he had wiped his face with them."

Da`eef (Weak). Transmitted by Tirmidhi (2/244) & Ibn `Asaakir (7/12/2) via: Hammaad ibn `Isa al-Juhani from Hanzalah ibn Abi Sufyaan al-Jamhi from Saalim ibn `Abdullaah from his father from `Umar ibn al-Khattaab, who said: ...

Tirmidhi said after it, "This is a saheeh ghareeb hadeeth. We only know it as a hadeeth of Hammaad ibn `Esa, for he is alone in reporting it; he has few ahaadeeth, but the people have reported from him."

However, this reporter is weak, as in Taqreeb of Ibn Hajr, who says about him in Tahdheeb:

Ibn Ma`een said, "A good shaikh"1Abu Haatim said, "Weak in Hadeeth"; Abu Daawood said,

"Weak, he reports munkar ahaadeeth"; Haakim and Naqqaash said, "He reports fabricated ahaadeeth from Ibn Juraij and Ja`far as-Saadiq." He is declared to be weak by Daaraqutni.

Ibn Hibbaan said, "He reports things which are the wrong way round on the authority of Ibn

Juraij and `Abdul `Azeez ibn `Umar ibn `Abdul `Azeez, such that it seems to those whose field this is that it is deliberate; it is not permissible to use him as proof." Ibn Maakoolaa
said, "They declare his ahaadeeth to be weak."

Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) demolishes the falsehood of a Jahmiy

In The Name Of Allaah The Most Merciful The Bestower Of Mercy
Imaam Ahmad (rahimahullaah) demolishes the falsehood of a Jahmiy concerning the statement of Allaah: ''And He (Allaah) is with you''
Jahmiy said: ''He (Allaah) is neither intermingled with anything nor is He separated from anything.
We said (i.e. Imaam Ahmad):''If He (Allaah) is not separated from anything, then is it not that He is intermingled?''
Jahmiy said:''No''
We said:''How can He be in everything and not intermingled with anything?''
Jahmiy could not find an answer, so he said: ''without howness''; thus the ignorant people became deceived and affected by this statement. So we said:
''When the day of judgement is established, will there be paradise, hell fire, the Arsh, the Kursi and the air?''
Jahmiy said:''Yes, certainly!''
We said:''Where will our Lord be?''
Jahmiy said:''He will be in everything just as he was in the worldly life.''
We said:''So your madhab is that what was part of Allaah above the Arsh will be above the Arsh; and what was part of Allaah in paradise will be in paradise; and what was part of Allaah in the fire will be in the fire and what was part of Allaah in the air will be in the air.'' So with this (argument of ours) their lies against Allaah (Jalla-Wa-Alaa) were clarified for the people.

Who is A Mubtadi’? (Innovator)

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said : ‘The Bida’ by which a person would be counted as from the Ahl-ul-Ahwa (the people who follow desires) is that which is well known by the people of knowledge of the Sunnah in it opposing the Book and the Sunnah; such as the Bida’ of the Khawarij1, Rawafidah2, al-Qadareeyah3 and the Murjiah4.’
[From: ‘Majmoo’ al-Fatawa Ibn Taymeeyah’ 35/414]
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) - Rahimullaah - said : Whoever opposes the clear Book, and the elaborate Sunnah or that which the Salaf of the Ummah held a consensus about, and this opposition is without a valid reason, then this person is dealt in the same manner in which the People of Bida’ are dealt with.’

[From: ‘Majmoo’ al-Fatawa Ibn Taymeeyah’ 35/414]

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said : Whoever worshipped with an act of worship which is not obligatory nor recommended, and he believed that it was obligatory or recommended, then he is a misguided Mubtada’, and this is an evil Bida’ not a good Bida’, and the imams of the Deen are in agreement about this, since Allaah is not worshipped except with that which is obligatory or recommended.’

[From: ‘Majmoo’ al-Fatawa Ibn Taymeeyah’ 1/160]

Distinction Between a Bida’ and Ijtihad

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said : ‘And many from those of the Salaf and those who of the consecutive generations said and acted upon that which is a Bida’ and they were not aware that it was a Bida’, either due to a weak hadeeth which they thought was authentic, or due to what they understood of the Ayaat which were not the intent of the Ayaat, or due to an opinion that they held in an issue where the text did not reach them.’

[From: ‘Majmoo’ al-Fatawa Ibn Taymeeyah’ 19/191]

Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (d.728 A.H.) -Rahimullaah- said : ‘As for the one whose sin is hidden or performs a Bida’ in secret, that Bida’ does not take a person outside of Islaam, and this person is not made Hijra (boycotted) from, on the contrary the person who is made Hijra from is the one who calls to Bida’.’

[From: ‘Majmoo’ al-Fatawa Ibn Taymeeyah’ 24/175]

Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) was asked:
Question: Which Bida’ is it by which a person is counted as being outside the circle of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jamma’?
The Answer: ‘The Bida’ such as of al-Qadr5, Bida’ of al-Irjaa6, Bida’ of ar-Rafd7, Bida’ of Kharooj8, and the Soofeeyah Bida’ such as the Mawlid9  which has Shirk and any other types of Mawlid. Making journeys to graves and other types of Bida’ which are similar to this - may Allaah bless you.
In having loyalty to the Ahl-ul-Bida’ a person becomes from amongst them, and likewise if he aids them and defends them. It was said to Ahmad bin Hanbal: ‘Indeed some people sit with the people of Bida’.’ Ahmad bin Hanbal (rahimahullaah) said: ‘Advise him.’ The person said: ‘But he rejected the advice.’ Ahmad (rahimahullaah) said: ‘Count him from amongst them.’ So, the one who sits with the Ahl-ul-Bida’ and associates himself with them then conclude from him that he is sick and that he is in agreement with these people, and regarding this point there are evidences, from them the saying of the Messenger (Peace be upon him) : ‘The souls are enlisted soldiers, those who become familiar with each other, associate with one another, and those who oppose each other, differ.’ So this person who associates himself and becomes familiar with Ahl-ul-Bida’ then it is evident that there is an agreement and similarity between the matters, the two people and the two groups. To clarify, what we have mentioned is concerning the one who leaves the circle of Ahl-ul-Sunnah wal-Jamma’.’
[Taken from: ‘Fatawa Fadeelata Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee’ 14/153]

Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) was asked:
Question: What are the rulings concerning the people of Bida’?
Answer:  ‘Indeed these people are divided into those who are Du’waat (callers to Bida’) and those who do not call to Bida’. As for those who call to Bida’, then these people can be given punishments which have been mentioned by the Imams of Islaam. From these punishments are banishment, just as Umar (radiAllaahu 'anhu) banished Sabeeg and others. Also from those punishments, are capital punishment, like they killed al-Ja’ad bin Dirham and al-Halaaj and others from the leaders of Bida’ and misguidance. As for their followers: then these are guided and it is explained to them and they are called to Allaah with wisdom and good exhortation.’
[Taken from: ‘Fatawa Fadeelata Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee’ 14/155]

Shaykh Rabee’ al-Madkhalee (hafidhahullaah) wrote: When is a man treated as Ahl-ul-Bida’
Shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah (rahimahullaah) said: ‘If the scholars of the Companions and those who followed them and those after them differed in a matter then they would follow the command of Allaah in His saying: << (And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allaah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allaah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination. >> [4:59]
And they would debate an issue, in a consultative, advising manner. And perhaps they would differ in a knowledge based practical issue, yet, they would maintain their friendship and practice restrain to aid brotherhood in the Deen. However, whoever opposes the clear Book, and the elaborate Sunnah or that which the Salaf of the Ummah held a consensus about, and the opposition is without excuse, then this person is dealt in the same manner as the People of Bida’.’
Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Abi Zayed al-Qayrawani (386) in his book ‘al- Jamia’: ‘And there is a saying of the Ahl-ul-Sunnah: that this person (of the people of Bida’) is not excused, because his Ijtihad (exertion in deriving a ruling) attracted him to Bida’; because the Khawarij made Ijtihad in interpreting, yet they were not excused. Their (erroneous) interpretation caused them to rebel against the Companions. The Messenger - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – labeled them as those that exited from the Deen. But as for Ijtihad (exertion in deriving a ruling) the Messenger - sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam – made it such that the Mujtahid (the person who derives a ruling) in rulings is rewarded even if he made a mistake in that ruling.’

The Status of Women in Islaam

The status of the Muslim woman in Islaam is a very noble and lofty one, and her effect is very great in the life of every Muslim. Indeed, the Muslim woman is the initial teacher in the building of a righteous society, providing she follows the guidance from the Book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Prophet sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam. Since adherence to the Qur’aan and the Sunnah distances every Muslim - male or female - from being misguided in any matter...

The secret of her importance lies in the tremendous burden and responsibility that is placed upon her, and the difficulties that she has to shoulder - responsibilities and difficulties some of which not even a man bears. This is why from the most important obligations upon a person is to show gratitude to the mother, and kindness and good companionship with her. And in this matter, she is to be given precedence over and above the father...

A man came to Allaah’s Messenger sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and said: O Messenger of Allaah! Who from amongst mankind warrants the best companionship from me? He replied: "Your mother." The man asked: Then who? So he replied: "Your mother." The man then asked: Then who? So the Prophet replied again: "Your mother." The man then asked: Then who? So he replied: "Then your father." [Related by al-Bukhaaree (no.5971) and Muslim (7/2), from Abu Hurayrah radiallaahu ‘anhu]. So this necessitates that the mother is given three times the like of kindness and good treatment than the father.

As regards the wife, then her status and her effect in making the soul tranquil and serene, has been clearly shown in the noble aayah (verse), in His - the Most High’s - saying:
"And from amongst His Signs is this: That He created for you wives from amongst yourselves, so that you may find serenity and tranquility in them. And He has put between you love and compassion. Indeed, in this are signs for those who reflect." [Soorah Room 30:21].

...And do not forget about ‘Aaishah - radiallaahu ‘anhaa - and her great effect. Since even the great Sahaabah(Companions) used to take knowledge of Hadeeth from her, and many of the Sahaabiyaat (female Companions) learn the various rulings pertaining to women’s issues from her...
And I have no doubt that my mother - may Allaah shower His mercy upon her - had a tremendous effect upon me, in encouraging me to study; and she assisted me in it. May Allaah greatly increase her reward and reward her with the best of rewards for what she did for me.

And there is no doubt also, that the house in which there is kindness, gentleness, love and care, along with the correct Islaamic tarbiyah (education and cultivation) will greatly affect the man. So he will become - if Allaah wills - successful in his affairs and in any matter - whether it be seeking knowledge, trading, earning a living, or other than this. So it is Allaah alone that I ask to grant success and to guide us all to that which He loves and is pleased with. And may the prayers and peace of Allaah be upon our Prophet Muhammad,
and upon his Family, his Companions and his followers.

Shaykh 'Abdul-'Azeez Ibn 'Abdullah Ibn 'Abdur-Rahmaan Ibn Baaz

Is giving da’wah mandatory upon the woman?

Question: Is giving da’wah mandatory upon the woman, and in which field does she call?

Answer: It is incumbent that we understand a

principle and it is: That which is established in

regards to the men then it is applicable to the

women (also) except with proof which points to

(the fact that it does not apply to the women

but rather only the men).

And an example where the proof is specific is: ‘Aaishah (radiyallaahu `anha) said: “O Messenger of Allaah! Is Jihaad binding upon the

women? ”So he (sallallaahu `alayhee wa salaam) said: “Jihaad is binding up them, that which entails no fighting; Hajj and Umrah.”-(Musnaad Imaam Ahmad and Sunan of Daruqutni)

And this shows that Jihaad, and it is Jihaad of the enemies (of Islaam), is mandatory

upon the men and not mandatory upon the women. And likewise the Prophet (sallallaahu `alayhee wa salaam) said: “The best rows for the men are the first ones and the worst rows are the last ones. And the best rows for the women are the last ones and the worst rows for them are the first ones.”-(Muslim)

So the principle is that whatever is established in regards to the men, then is applies (also) to the women from the commandments and prohibitions. And that which is established in regards to the women, then it (also) applies to the men, and for this, whoever accuses a man (of fornication), it is incumbent that he be punished with eighty lashes along with the fact that the verse was (specifically)

for those men who accuse chaste innocent women (of fornication). As Allaah the Most High said:“And those who accuse chaste women, and produce not four witnesses, flog them with eighty stripes…” –An-Nur (24):4

Then we look at giving da’wah to Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic. Is it specific to the men or is it a

general, collective (effort shared by both women and men)?

And that which is clarified from the book of Allaah and the Sunnah of His Messenger (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is that it is a general, collective (effort).

But the field of da’wah for a woman is not like the field of da’wah for a man. So the woman gives da’wah in a woman’s gathering and not in the gathering of men. So she gives da’wah in

the field which, it is possible (Islamically) for her to give da’wah in. And it is in the gatherings of women,

whether it be in the schools or in the masaajid.

Diligence upon the Reasons that bring about Happiness and Avoid the Reasons that bring about Misery

In the name of Allaah, The Most Beneficent, Bestower of Mercy.

Diligence upon the Reasons that bring about Happiness and Avoid the Reasons
that bring about Misery by Sheikh 'Abdul 'Azeez bin Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him.

Translator: Abu Fouzaan Qaasim

Beware! Oh my brother of this horrified spectacle (The Day of Resurrection)!
Beware that your scale will be lightened (due to your lack of good deeds)!
Beware that you will be given your book in your left hand!
For indeed, that is a terrible affliction.

Be diligent upon attaining the means that bring about happiness and safety; that your scale be heavy (with good deeds), that you receive your book in your right hand and be amidst the successful and happy people (on that day).

This abode (i.e. The Dunya), is the abode of reckoning (i.e. of the self). So call yourself to account! Look at your actions day, night and forever until you expire.
Thus, if you are upright and steadfast then praise Allaah and thank Him and be patient and persevere and ask your Lord for success and stability.
However, if you have been disregardful and lethargic in many affairs then you must check yourself!

Repent to Allaah, be upright, and repair that which you have been sluggish in, be steadfast upon the commandments of Allaah and stay away from the prohibitions of Allaah with a sincere intention solely for Him, yearning for what He possesses with Him accompanied with truthfulness.
Allaah says: [Oh you who believe! Have taqwah of Allaah and be with those who are
truthful]. 9: 119
Therefore there must be truthfulness found in the individual.

(Again) Allaah says: [Oh you who believe! Have taqwah of Allaah and be with those who are truthful]. 9: 119
And He says: [Then if they had been true to Allaah, it would have been better for them]. 47: 21

Allaah also says at the end of Surah al-Maaidah: [This is the Day on which the truthful will benefit from their truthfulness; they will have Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) they shall abide therein forever. Allaah is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success (Paradise)]. 5: 119

This is the state of the truthful ones, those who are truthful with Allaah in implementing the haqq (truth), leaving off what Allaah has forbade, striving against the soul with good, racing towards the good, enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, encouraging one another with the truth and good advise to Allaah and to His slaves.

Whoever strives against his own self will find a praiseworthy outcome and he will reap the benefit of that in the Dunya and Aakhirah. But whosoever is careless and negligent of this affair (i.e. striving against one's self) then he will regret the outcome.

So, it is a must to be cautious (of this matter). And you must examine yourself day and night asking: "What have I done"? "What have I been neglectful in"?! In order for you to know what is for you and what is against you.

Furthermore, beware of accompanying the wretched ones! Those who hinder you from doing good and aid you in doing evil. It is upon you to accompany the upright persons, those who when you recollect about an affair they assist you, when you forget they remind you with the good, those who strive with you, who are patient with you and they help and support you upon the good.

(Again) it is mandatory that you befriend the best of the people. Because a person is on the deen of his companion. He is going to be upon what his companion is upon. Thus, be eager in befriending the righteous and decent people. Those who help you upon the good and remind you when you forget and goad you when you become lazy.
You must accompany the honorable and avoid accompanying the wicked; those who impede you from what is correct and lead you to falsehood. Be cautious of associating with them. Because the believer, according to his condition, if he advises for Allaah and for His slaves and sticks with the upright persons he will achieve the utmost happiness and success. But if he abandons and neglects (what was just mentioned) he will have the utmost remorse.

Thus, oh you slave of Allaah; you must adorn yourself with the mannerisms of the Believers and abide by them. Allaah He says: [The Believers, men and women, are Auliyaa' (helpers, supporters, friends etc.) of one another, they enjoin the good and forbid the evil, they perform the Salat and give the Zakat and obey Allaah and His Messenger. Allaah will have mercy upon them. Surely Allaah is All-Mighty, All-Wise]. 9: 71

And the Messenger, sallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "All of my nation will enter Paradise except those who refuse. It was said: Oh Messenger of Allaah! Who will refuse?! He, sallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise and whoever disobeys me then he has refused." [1]

Hence, whoever obeys Allaah and His messenger, sallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, enters Paradise and achieves the greatest success. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His messenger, sallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, then he has refused and exposed himself to the anger of Allah and His punishment.

So, it is imperative to be alert and to fight against the soul.
Allaah, The Most High, says: [As for those who strive in Us (for Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (Allaah's Religion). And verily, Allaah is with the gooddoers]. 29: 69
And He says: [And surely, We shall try you till We test those who strive hard (for the cause of Allaah) and the patient ones, and We shall test your facts (i.e. the one who is a liar and the one who is truthful]. 47: 31

Hence, striving is incumbent and bearing patiently is also incumbent.
Allaah, The Most High, says: [And whosoever strives he only strives for himself. Verily Allaah is free of all wants from the 'Aalameen (mankind, jinn and all that exists]. 29: 6
Therefore strive against yourself! So that perhaps you will be saved. Because you are in danger, this abode is an abode of danger, an abode of deception, an abode of tribulations. Allaah He says: [And what is the worldly life except a deceiving enjoyment]. 3: 185

And He says: [Your wealth and your children are only trials, whereas Allaah! With Him is a great reward (Paradise]. 64:15

You are in an abode of deceptions, trials, lusts, and an abode of allurement to commit what Allaah has prohibited. You have to be heedful as long as you are present in this life. Fight against your soul, be forbearing upon the obedience of your Lord and be mindful of His disobedience. Cling to those who are upright and watch out for the evil ones.

This is the path to success. This is the path to salvation and the road to good.
The Prophet, sallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, said: "Whoever Allaah wants good for He gives him understanding of the Religion." [2]
So it is upon you to learn and seek understanding and insight of the Religion.

Displaying a good example in all of our affairs‏

Taken from the book 'Al-Imaam Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah) - Duroos wa Mawaaqif wa 'Ibar' by Sheikh 'Abdul 'Azeez As-Sadhaan*, may Allah preserve him - :

It comes in the biography of 'Abdur Rahman ibn Abaan ibn 'Uthmaan ibn 'Affaan, may Allah have mercy upon him; That he was one who performed alot of worship and was very devout (to Allah). 'Alee ibn 'Abdillah ibn 'Abbaas, may Allah have mercy on him, saw him one day and was deeply amazed by 'Abdur Rahman's devoutness and manners so much that he emulated him in good. [1]
'Abdullah ibn Wahb, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "That which we conveyed from the manners of (Imaam) Maalik was way more than what we learnt from his knowledge." [2]

Al-Haafidh Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy upon him, mentions in 'Al-Bidaayah wan- Nihaayah' in the biography of Al-Hasan Al-Basree, Allah have mercy upon him, : "And Yoonus ibn 'Ubayd said: A man would benefit merely by him looking at Al-Hasan even if he didn't hear any of his speech nor see any of his actions."

And (Muhammad) ibn Sireen, Allah have mercy upon him; When he would enter into the marketplace, the people of the marketplace would cease from buying and selling and start remembering Allah the Most High.

A man would gain some benefit by looking at Ibn Qudaamah (author of Al-Mughnee), Allah have mercy upon him, before he would hear (anything from him). [3]

Ja'far As-Saadiq said: "When my heart became hardened I would go to the masjid where Muhammad ibn Waasi' was and look at his face only. Thence, I would strive hard in the obedience of Allah for a whole week from that single look at him."

Ibn Al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "Sadness and grief would overcome us, so we would go to Sheikh ul-Islaam, Allah have mercy upon him, and the moment we saw him the sadness would leave from us. So glorified be He (i.e. Allah) who enters His slaves into His Paradise before the meet Him."

Ibn Nadheef said: "Indeed I have witnessed many remarkable men. But I haven't seen anyone the likes of Abi Muhammad ibn Abi Nasr. He was a cooling to the eye." [4]

And all of these narrations are comprised in his, sallahu 'alayhi wasallam, statement: "Verily the close friends of Allah, are those who when they are seen Allah is remembered." [5]

Certainly, his eminence, Sheikh 'Abdul 'Azeez ibn Baaz, may Allah have mercy upon him; The onlooker at him would be touched and influenced by him when he witnessed his manners and his clinging to the Sunnah.

Thus, he was a great example in his prayer, his clothing, his speech, an example in his friendliness and softness. An example in his harshness when it came to the truth. Truly, he was blessed no matter where he was in or where he went. Allah, the Most High, says: "And He has made me blessed wheresoever I may be...." [6]

The Ruling on Wearing a (Diblah) Wedding ring‏

Question:

What is the ruling on wearing a ring known as a Diblah on the right hand for the suitor

and on the left hand for the fiancee bearing in mind that this Diblah is not made of gold?

Answer:

We know of no basis for this deed in the Islamic Law so it is better to leave it, whether the Diblah is made of silver or anything else, but if it is made of gold then it is forbidden for a man, because the Messenger -Sallallahu alaihi wasallam- forbade men from wearing gold rings.

Does Du’aa Change the Qadr? Shaykh Saalih as-Suhaymee

Question: Does supplication change the qadar?
Answer: It comes in a hadeeth that some of the people of knowledge have deemed authentic and it is, “Nothing changes the qadar except supplication.” However the intent behind it is that Allaah has (already) decreed for this person to supplicate and thus such and such a thing will happen for him due to it.
This is similar to the hadeeth, “Whoever wishes for his lifespan to be extended and his provisions increased then let him keep good ties with his kith and kin.” Yet, there still isn’t any change in the decree of Allaah. Because Allaah is the one who decreed for him to keep ties with the womb that bore him so that his life-span may be extended while so and so does not keep ties with the womb that bore him so his life-span gets cut short. All of this takes place by the decree of Allaah ‘Azza wa Jal.
And He (i.e. Allaah) decreed for this person to supplicate and therefore Allaah benefitted him by that supplication that he made and another individual does not supplicate so as a result doesn’t benefit from supplication.
Na’am (Yes).
